The biannual Italian courses develop all linguistic skills. Every semester the Linguistic Centre provides courses for the different levels of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).
ENROLMENT FOR COURSES IN THE FIRST SEMESTER OF THE 2026/27 ACADEMIC YEAR IS CLOSED COURSES START ON 5 OCTOBER
ATTENDANCE IS FREE OF CHARGE
ALL THE ENROLMENT STEPS ARE MANDATORY. STUDENTS WHO DO NOT COMPLETE ALL THREE STEPS WILL NOT BE ABLE TO ATTEND ANY LESSONS.

Places in Italian language courses are limited. Priorities are managed as follows:
First Course & First-Time Enrollees: priority is always given to students who have never attended an Italian language course at the Language Center. You maintain full priority for up to three courses if you belong to one of the following categories: – Students “at risk” and political refugees. – Students of the Scuola Galileiana or students enrolled in one of these degree programmes: Lingue, Letterature e Mediazione culturale, Computer Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Water and Geological Risk Engineering, Medicine and Surgery.
Enrolling in Additional Courses: if you do not belong to the categories above and have already attended a course even partially — more than 10 hours — regardless of course type or duration: – You can still apply for further courses, but you will be placed on a waiting list if places run out. – Waiting list places will be assigned if registered students withdraw or do not show up.
End-of-course test: to be eligible for the test, exchange students (Erasmus+ KA131 Study, SEMP, SEN Coimbra, ARQUS, Bilateral Agreements) must complete at least 70% attendance.
ECTS Recognition (3 credits maximum): passing the test enables the University of Padua to record 3 ECTS credits on your Transcript of Records, provided that the ‘LABORATORIO DI LINGUA ITALIANA L2’ is included in your Learning Agreement (the module does not have a code; entering the name is sufficient). Credits can be recognised only once, even if you attend more that one Italian language course. Note: You can still attend the Italian course even if you don’t need the credits.
Assessment & Grading (Pass/Fail Only): the test and course are evaluated strictly on a Pass/Fail basis (no numerical grades are assigned). Students are responsible for verifying in advance whether their home university recognises ECTS modules without a grade. No exceptions will be granted.
Certificate of Attendance: all students who reach 70% attendance receive an official certificate stating the course level and total hours completed that does not include any grade or assessment.
Students can choose between two types of courses, subject to availability:
Communicative Italian courses – focused on developing oral skills – 30 hours. These courses focus on collaborative tasks, assignments and simulations in pairs or small groups that reproduce real-life situations. The aim is to promote more fluent communication, with different objectives depending on CEFR level (from Pre-A1 to B2). However, they include elements of grammar that are useful for communication activities.
General Italian courses – 40 hours. These courses develop all language skills (listening, reading, writing and use of the language). They also cover oral production, although to a lesser extent than communicative courses. They are offered for all levels, from Pre-A1 to C1, according to the the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).
Courses are structured as follows: 4 hours of lessons per week (2 meetings of 2 hours each per week). Any textbooks are at the student’s expense.
First-semester courses will begin on 5 October and run until November/December 2026. For most classes the lessons are held in-person in the classroom, but there are a few classes entirely held online.
1st STEP: REGISTRATION TO THE PLATFORM – FROM 15 (at 9am) TO 22 SEPTEMBER
Register on the platform register using your university account (SSO credentials – name.surname@studenti.unipd.it). There is a limited number of places, so you are advised to register as soon as the registration period opens. Once all places available are filled up, a waiting list will be opened. If you have a formal relationship with the University of Padova but do NOT have SSO credentials (e.g. European Voluntary Service, Visiting Professors, PhD exchange students) you must first create a temporary account in Uniweb through the following link: obtain temporary credentials. You will be able to enrol for the Italian courses the day after you register on Uniweb.
2nd STEP: MANDATORY PLACEMENT TEST – FROM 15 TO 22 SEPTEMBER
To proceed with the enrolment you must take the placement test during the registration period. You find the link for the test directly within the registration platform. The test is on Moodle CLA platform: you must login using your SSO credentials (e.g. 12345678@unipd.it / name.surname@studenti.unipd.it). If you have a numerical account and this is your first access, please download this file and follow the instructions: Moodle first access. The number of courses provided for each level, will depend on the number of students who sign up and on the results of their placement test!
3rd STEP: CHOICE OF TIMETABLE AND TYPE OF COURSES – CHECK THE DATES IN THE BOXES BELOW
For each level, there will be classes of two types of courses (general/communicative) and different schedules. You must choose a class: students who do not select their class schedule will not be able to attend any lessons!
INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS ENROLLED AT UNIPD, DOUBLE DEGREE STUDENTS, PhD, PROFESSORS, RESEARCHERS, DOUBLE AND JOINT DEGREES
The in-person courses will be held at the Language Centre in Via Venezia 16 (building no. 4 of the Citadel of Psychology). Students enrolled in online classes will receive the course link by e-mail from the teacher before the first lesson. If you do not show up for the course without informing us for TWO consecutive lessons, you will be unenrolled from the course. Your place will be given to the next person on the waiting list. If you decide not to continue the course you are attending, please write an e-mail to the Students’ Office and inform the course teacher within the first two weeks of the course.
