The University Language Centre organizes semester-long basic language courses in French, English, Portuguese, Spanish, German and Russian.
Courses are mainly held in-person (classroom or lab) at the CLA.
At the end of the course, students who have attended at least 70% of the classes will be eligible for a certificate of attendance. Participants will NOT obtain a language level certificate at the end of the course. These are extracurricular courses and do not give credits.
Courses recipients
The courses are aimed mainly at students at the University who do not have access to language courses through their own degree course.
Length
The total duration of the course is 30 academic hours, spread over 7-8 weeks – 2 sessions per week of 2 academic hours each (= 1 ½ hours in person).
Levels
The courses are all a “basic” level and aim to get students started with a language or help them to further their knowledge of the basic structure of the language.
Levels from complete beginner (no previous knowledge of the language) to lower intermediate level (A2/B1) can therefore be activated. In any case, courses never exceed level B1.
It is necessary to check the information relating to each individual language to verify the levels activated. As for English, only A2 or A2/B1 level courses are activated (not complete beginner level).
Course planning for the 2025/26 a. y.
The following courses are planned for the 2025/26 academic year:
- four English courses – two in the 1st semester and two in the 2nd semester (levels offered will be A2.1 to A2.2/B1)
- at least three French courses – two in the 1st semester (at least one at beginner level) and at least one in the 2nd semester
- at least four German courses – three in the 1st semester (at least one at beginner level) and at least one in the 2nd semester
- one beginner’s Portuguese course in the 1st semester
- two Russian courses – one in the 1st semester (absolute beginner level) and one in the 2nd semester (the level of which will be assessed based on the requests received)
- six Spanish courses – three in the 1st semester (at least one at beginner level) and three in the 2nd semester
Enrollment
Registration can be completed by filling out the online form after selecting the language of the course at the bottom of this page. The form will remain active until all places are filled and in any case no later than the deadline indicated.
Courses have a limited number of places (max. 25 participants) and once the maximum number of participants has been reached, it will no longer be possible to enrol. Courses will run with a minimum of 10 participants. Please only enrol if you are sure you can attend, after checking the timetable.
Enrolment for courses in the second semester of 2025/26 will open on 18 February 2026.
Updates on the number of courses, levels and timetables will be available by the same date.
