The Language Centre provides 30-hour Academic English Language Courses. The courses are open to lecturers, grant-holders, PhD students, Master’s students or those who have a formal collaboration with the University of Padova for academic reasons. Participants must have reached at least a B1 level of the CEFR; this will be evaluated through an obligatory entry test. The course timetable can be consulted in the appropriate section below.
Who can sign up?
The course is open to lecturers, grant-holders, PhD students, Master’s students and post-graduate collaborators at the University of Padova.
Requirements and entry test
Participants must have reached at least a B1 level of the CEFR. Participants will be selected via an obligatory entry test. This test can be taken online from any computer with audio and headphone capabilities. The entry test is obligatory for everyone, including those who may already hold a language certification.
The entry test lasts around one and half hours at the most, and tests reading, listening, grammar and writing skills.
After having signed up for the course, when the minimum number is reached, participants will be sent instructions via email on how to access the entry test.
Based on the test results, the list of those admitted to the course will be published on this web page according to the timetable (see section below). In the case of more than 20 people holding the necessary requirements, a waiting list will be created based on chronological order of signing up.
Contents and course structure
The course, consisting in 30 hours in the classroom with a highly qualified teacher, aims to help participants to develop the necessary language skills to be able to write texts (abstracts, emails), to present research projects and to socialize/network during international conferences. Lessons will be held exclusively in English and participants will be required to take an active role in the course. The maximum number of participants is 20. To participate in the course you must fill in the online form. When the minimum number of participants is reached (15), an email will be sent out with instructions on how to access the entry test according to the timetable. Based on the results of the entry test, the list of eligible participants will be published on this page according to the timetable.
The first 20 eligible applicants only will be admitted to the course. In the case of more than 20 eligible candidates, a waiting list will be created based on chronological order of signing up.
Once the list has been published course participants will be sent an email detailing the payment to be carried out via bank transfer, respecting the deadline set out in the email.

Subscription fee
The enrolment fee is 252 Euro.
For PhD students, the fee is 202 Euro.
