The Language Center hosted the XXVII AICLU Seminar entitled “Autonomous Learning: a strategic resource for University Language Centers?”.
The event was held on September 21st and 22nd, 2023 at the CLA in Padua and saw the active participation of representatives of more than twenty Italian Language Centers.
The central theme of the Seminar, autonomous learning, has become increasingly relevant in the field of language education. University language centres play a crucial role in facilitating foreign language learning for university students and the Seminar highlighted how the autonomous approach has become a strategic resource in this context.
It was an important opportunity for constructive debates and discussions. Participants shared their experiences in implementing autonomous learning strategies, innovative methods and technological tools used in their centres.
The speech by the international guest, Professor Jo Mynard, director of the Research Institute for Learner Autonomy Education (RILAE) at Kanda University of International Studies in Japan, aroused considerable interest.
The XXVII AICLU Seminar in Padua was also an opportunity to hold the 1st Meeting of the administrative/computer staff of the University Language Centres. The meeting took place on 21st September at our Centre and had as its main objective the sharing of “good practices”. Many activities created by University Language Centres do not find their way into the standard procedures of the Universities and this meeting was a valuable opportunity to discuss common themes and to present activities and the CLA’s projects. The hope is that this day may have been the starting point for the creation of a network of collaboration and for the creation of fruitful relations between the administrative/ IT staff of the Italian University Language Centres.
