Our TAL tests are administered to:
- Students who are required to take the TAL test as part of their study plan i.e., the students of the following Unipd Schools: Engineering, Science, Human and Social Sciences, Agriculture Science and Veterinary Medicine, Economics and Political Science and of some specific degree courses of the School of Medicine (Chemical and Pharmaceutical Technologies, Applied Pharmaceutical Sciences, Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Biotechnologies). The test is also offered to students of the Galilean School of Higher Education.
- Future students: external candidates who are applying for a Second-cycle Degree course held in English at Padua University, where the B2 English level is an entry requirement and the students do not possess any language certificate to demonstrate this level of competence. These candidates must take the TAL test on one of the dates organised for future students. Future students holding a foreign degree are not admitted as they must present other language certifications.
The Language Centre website dedicated to future students contains all the information on this test. - Erasmus outgoing grant winners: Unipd students who have won a mobility grant and are required to provide to their destination University a language proficiency certificate that they do not possess. Specific TAL sessions are organised for these students after the publication of the Erasmus rankings. These sessions are also open to the winners of other mobility grants, compatible with the dates defined for the Erasmus programme.
- Erasmus outgoing call participants: Unipd students who are willing to participate in the outgoing Erasmus+ programme (but have not yet won the grant) and do not have any valid international certification, nor any chance to take the TAL because it isn’t part of their study plan. For these students, a special date is offered before the deadline of the Erasmus call.
- University teaching staff and PhD students who teach in English: As of academic year 2022/23 they can take the TAL C1 reading and listening test.
Can I take the TAL test if it is not in my study plan?
No, unless your degree course specifies the TAL test as part of another exam (i.e. Political Science), or you have in your study plan the following exam: “Work Placements and Laboratories”, where the TAL test can be included.
If I already have language certification do I still have to do the TAL?
If the language certification in your possession is a certifying body recognized by our University you can ask for recognition of certification at the University of Padua Student Careers Office during the exam session.
Each School establishes its own certification recognition criteria, for example, for how many years it is valid.
Is it possible to take TAL tests for the Erasmus+ programme?
Yes, to apply for the Erasmus+ programme you can take TAL tests to evaluate your competences only if:
- you have won a mobility grant (Erasmus+, bilateral agreement etc) and you have been asked for a language certificate that you do not have from your destination University;
- you are willing to participate in the Erasmus+ programme (or other outgoing mobility) but don’t have any valid international certification, nor any chance to take the TAL, because this exam is not part of your study plan.
You can take this test only before your departure.
If the TAL test is part of your study plan you have to take the exam during one of the sessions organised for your School or degree course.
On the other hand, if you do not have the TAL test included as part of your study plan, you can participate in one of the sessions organised ad hoc by the Language Center for outgoing students (with a maximum of two attempts).
Detailed information about TAL testing for mobility programmes can be found at the Erasmus out web page.
